Call of the Divine
Call of the Divine
The practice of chanting becomes a space for us to connect- with each other, ourselves, and the divine.
The word kirtan can be understood to mean call, recite, praise, or describe. It is truly one of the most beloved bhakti practices- it is accessible, deep, and profound.
You’ll be taught sacred sanskrit mantras and their meaning, before we sing them together call and response style. It is said that there is a name of the divine created to stir love in each and every being’s heart. Here you will have the opportunity to learn the names and stories of Gods and Goddesses like Durga, Lakshmi, Shiva, Hanuman, and more.
I really see kirtan as a relational practice, that unfolds the more we do it. Chanting creates the pathway for us to make our way into our hearts, to express the depths of our being and to share in that process. It is a practice by the people, for the people- traditionally you’ll see people of all ages and walks of life singing kirtan, anywhere from the busy streets, the temple, to their homes.
Along with chanting, I also share my favorite stories and teachings about the deities. Each month I focus on a theme, inspired by the current astrology, vedic festivals, the seasons, and what’s coming up in our sangha. This is juicy stuff that I love to get to teach.
The only way to really know it, is to experience it! So much of what happens in these devotional practices lives in our inner world, which we can only tap into through direct engagement. This is my invitation to you to say yes to your curiosity!
