Hidden Yoga
Tucked within the walls of Hidden Hannya Tattoo in Lancaster, PA
Off the beaten path, Hidden Yoga is an abode for therapeutic yoga for the esoterically inclined.
A secret Sanctuary
What began as my own private practice space in time turned into a hub for yogic practice that goes against the grain.
The practice I teach at Hidden Yoga is steeped in lineage, and has been passed down to me directly by my own teacher. It is a practice that upholds the very purpose of yoga- a journey of deep inner realization of your own true nature.
This is deep and magical work, and the dwelling in which we do it is an important piece. This space is lovingly tended and maintained, and the heart of a creative and communal space. It is my sincere hope that Hidden Yoga is an abode for practitioners who don’t quite feel at home at the average yoga studio, for the person on the fringes and who champions the magic of tradition that is handed down from teacher to student.
When you visit Hidden Yoga you’re surrounded by a collection of art amassed over lifetimes, imbuing the space with shakti.
The studio is located at 420 W Grant St Lancaster, PA. Enter using the metal staircase.
Pre-registration is required for all classes
Hidden Yoga’s final weekly yoga class will be on Wednesday March 26th. Please use this time to use the classes in any purchased packages.
Classes in your package can be shared, please email sonia@soniakaras.com and I will help you schedule.
Hidden Worlds
A yoga studio inside of a tattoo shop is a little unusual, which is just how we like it!
Hidden Hannya Tattoo was opened by my partner Adam in the spring of 2022. An homage to traditional tattoo imagery, it’s secret traditions, and the offbeat location of the space helped to give Hidden Hannya it’s name.
Once inside the shop, you’ll find Hidden Yoga- named for it’s secretive location, and for the esoteric teachings of the tantric tradition which are often called “hidden.” (major 8th bhava for my astrology people)
Adam and I are both a bit against the grain and also hold a real reverence for tradition and stewardship. Our work and the space we’re in reflect this ethos and our commitment to upholding the current, in our own ways.
An Ending
To my dear friends of Hidden Yoga, the time has come to lay down my role as public yoga teacher. For 10 years I have held this responsibility with tenderness and gratitude. It has given me the great fortune of meeting so many of you, of sharing what is so dear to me.
This space will continue on for kirtan and special events, so it is truly just a, “see you soon!”
It feels important to say, that though I will no longer be publicly leading classes, that yoga and the Vedic tradition are still very much a part of my life. That I will continue to roll out my blankets, to light my lamps, and I hope that you too will continue with your practice. There is so much to sustain us in this tradition, lifetimes of wisdom to discover. But the path you choose can be simple. Infact, I hope that it is- simple enough to carry you all the way. Simple enough to be there when times are hard as much as when they are easy. Simple so they may become part of you, woven into your daily life.
